Paper Abstract:
|
This paper will explore initiatives in educating IT practitioners at Monash University, Australia. It reports on an innovative shift from traditional hegemonic pedagogic models to a student-centred mode of learning. Such teaching practice relies on contravening the hitherto paradigmatic methods of educating tertiary IT students to ensure judicious and opportune response to the increasing demands of new and rapidly developing fields of study. As an exemplar in IT education, the School of Multimedia Systems has successfully experimented with student-centred learning in a unique Studio environment now in its 5th year in the Bachelor of Multimedia. The improvement in the effectiveness of teaching practice and student-learning associated with this new model of knowledge and skills creation and dissemination is described in what follows. |
